I still remember the date. It was 14th November 2003. Childrens’ Day. Our school had organized various competitions, one of which was On the spot story writing. I was in 5th standard then. We were given 9 pictures and were asked to select any 4 among them and write a story containing them. Well, I don’t remember the other 5 pictures but those 4 which I chose were Father, Mother, Me and Doll. What story do you expect from a 10-year-old? It is here below the first ever story I wrote within an hour (I guess so… My memory is not that good). I present it here as it is which I recovered recently while cleaning up my old stuffs….
My Dream came true
I lived with my father and mother. One day I was very sad. When I came home after playing with my friends, my mother asked me “Why are you so sad?”. I said “Mother, look all my friends have a doll and play with it happily, but I can’t. Because I don’t have any doll to play with”. My mother said, “Is that all?! I will get you one.” In the evening after my father came back from his work my mother told him what I had asked for. My father replied “So what! I shall give you a lovely doll as a surprise one day”. I asked curiously “When?”. My father just laughed and whispered something in my mother’s ears and got back to his work. My birthday was fast approaching. At that time my father had been out of station. I started dreaming about my birthday. The dream follows like this: I feel very sad without my father on my birthday. All my friends and relatives have come except my father. Everyone presents me a gift. I see all the gifts except my father’s. I get upset and go back to sleep. My mother is watching TV when someone knocks at the door. My mother did not seem to be hearing it. I am bit afraid. But still I take courage to open the door. To my great surprise! It is my father with a birthday gift for me. I immediately started opening it and danced with joy. “O Lovely doll! Thank you mother and father” I said. It was indeed a lovely gift. Suddenly I got up looking for gift and realized that it was only a dream. The following day was my actual birthday. My father got me the same gift that I had seen in the dream. My happiness knew no bounds. It was really a dream came true.
